Kuwait, South Korea's opponent in the third Asian qualifier for the 2026 World Cup North America, is changing its head coach.

The Kuwait Football Association (KFA) announced on Wednesday that it will part ways with head coach Lee Bento after one day local time, according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The KFA did not provide a reason for the departure, saying only that it "thanked him for his time at the helm of the national team and wished him success in the future."

Bento took charge of the Kuwait A team in the summer of 2022 after coaching Portugal's age-group national team.

Under Bento's leadership, Kuwait qualified for the third round of the World Cup in Asia after finishing second in Group A with two wins, one draw and three losses.

It was the first time Kuwait had qualified for the third round of a World Cup since 2006 in Germany.

Kuwait were drawn in Group B with South Korea, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, and Palestine in the third qualifying round.

The third qualifying round, where the second-place finisher gets a direct ticket to the knockout stage, starts in September.

South Korea will face Kuwait on Nov. 14 and June 10 next year.
